January 28 - Safe Routes in All Weather Photo Contest
The Safe Routes Partnership is celebrating walking, biking, and rolling in all types of weather with an exciting photo contest. Winners in the three categories (Safe Routes to School in All Weather, Safe Routes to Parks in All Weather, and Fun and Humor) will receive $50 gift cards. Submit by February 28 to promote your SRTS program. Learn more about the contest on the Safe Routes Partnership's website, and happy photographing!
January 31 - Prepare for Non-Infrastructure Grant Applications
VDOT is pleased to announce the Non-Infrastructure Grants for the 2020-2021 school year! These grants are used to fund SRTS-related activities, reimburse relevant costs, or SRTS district coordinators. Applications open on February 11 and are due March 20. March is Brain Injury Awareness Month
Did you know that 14% of tramautic brain injuries are caused by motor vehicle crashes? The Brain Injury Association of America is raising awareness this March to educate the public, empower survivors, and promote available support. Join the #ChangeYourMind campaign and learn more on their website.
March 11-12 - National Walking Summit
The National Walking Summit, as hosted by America Walks, will take place in St. Louis, Missouri on March 11-12. Connect with other like-minded people over this year's theme: Connecting Communities, Overcoming Barriers. The Summit's website has more information and inspiration about the power of walking.
SRTS Calendar
The SRTS Calendar discusses the importance of working with your school and school division to get SRTS events on the official calendar so that students, parents, and schools can look forward to and prepare for Safe Routes events. This resource also includes a customizable academic calendar that shows the important upcoming SRTS dates and can be used in the classroom or to help plan for SRTS events.
