SNOW AND SLUSH ON SHENANDOAH VALLEY ROADS

STAUNTON – (11:30 a.m.) Snowfall continues throughout the Shenandoah Valley and Alleghany Highlands on Sunday, February 13. Approaching mid-day, parts of the region have received up to five inches of snow. The Virginia Department of Transportation is plowing and treating roads as needed, with an initial focus on interstates and primary roadways.

Snowfall is expected to taper off Sunday evening, but slushy and wet roads will refreeze during the overnight hours as temperatures drop into the teens. Black ice and glazing create the most dangerous driving conditions, and VDOT urges motorists to avoid traveling when ice may be present.

Here are the conditions as of 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the VDOT Staunton District:

Interstate 64 – Minor conditions in Alleghany and Augusta counties. Clear conditions in Rockbridge County.

Interstate 66 – Clear conditions in Warren County.

Interstate 81 – Minor conditions in Rockbridge, Augusta and Rockingham counties. Clear conditions in Shenandoah and Frederick counties.

Primary roads – Minor conditions in Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham and Page counties. Clear conditions in Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren counties.

Secondary roads – Moderate conditions in Rockingham County. Minor conditions in Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Page, Shenandoah, Clarke and Warren counties. Clear conditions in Frederick County.
