STAUNTON – A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected to fall throughout the Shenandoah Valley and Alleghany Highlands on Saturday. Crews and contractors for the Virginia Department of Transportation will be on duty beginning early Saturday morning to plow or treat roads as needed.

VDOT advises motorists to closely watch weather conditions and consider postponing travel until temperatures rise well above freezing. Black ice is possible whenever freezing rain falls, especially on bridges and overpasses. Drivers should keep their speed down and leave extra stopping distance during times of wintry weather.

For winter road conditions go to http://www.511Virginia.org, look at the orange bar on the top of the page and click on “Text Views” and then click on “Road Condition Table”. Look at the pull down box that lists all jurisdictions.  In this box individual counties can be chosen to view.
