STAUNTON – A Virginia Department of Transportation safety-enhancement project is scheduled to begin Monday, April 6, on Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) in Augusta County. The project will take place along a 5.8-mile stretch of Route 254 between Route 612 (Frog Pond Road) and Route 42 (Buffalo Gap Highway). Improvements include shoulder widening, guardrail installations and new rumble strips on the edges of the roadway.

From April 6 through late May 2020, flaggers and pilot trucks will control traffic along Route 254 on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists should expect potential delays during these work hours. All work is weather permitting.

In February 2020, VDOT awarded a $1,073,796.47 contract to S. L. Williamson Company Inc. of Charlottesville, Virginia. The Federal Highway Administration funds 90 percent of the design and construction of this project through the Highway Safety Improvement Program.
