TRAFFIC ALERT FOR JANUARY 7-11, 2019
Highway Work Zones in the Staunton District

STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley:  Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for pothole patching, 8 p.m. January 13 to 7 a.m. January 14.

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and pipe replacements. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed for Jackson River bridge replacement between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and pipe replacements. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 174 to 175, northbound – Overnight left lane closure for soil work, 8 p.m. January 10 to 7 a.m. January 11.

(UPDATE) Exit 188A, southbound – Off-ramp to Route 60 narrowed during overnight hours for guardrail repair, January 10 from 12 midnight to 5 a.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 202 to 201, southbound – Early morning left lane closure for guardrail repair, January 7 from 3:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs and brush cutting. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 89 to 88, westbound – Overnight left lane closure for guardrail repair, January 10-12 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Exit 94, westbound – Off-ramp to Route 340 narrowed for guardrail repair, 8 p.m. January 8 to 7 a.m. January 9.

INTERSTATE 81  
(UPDATE) Mile marker 208 to 235, northbound – Overnight right shoulder closures at various locations for guardrail repair, January 8-9 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 213 to 223, southbound – Overnight left lane closures for guardrail repair at various locations, January 6-7 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Mile marker 221 to 223, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closed 24/7 through February 28 for ramp extension work. Occasional lane closures possible during overnight hours. Interchange ramps remain open.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway) – Mobile lane closures for shoulder repairs between Route 750 (Keezletown Road) and Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road). January 7-8 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Lane and shoulder closures between Route 646 (Fadley Road) and Rockingham County line for sinkhole repairs. January 8-11 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 254 (Hermitage Road) – Lane closures as needed for shoulder repairs from Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) to Route 608 (Long Meadow Road). January 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) – Mobile lane closures for shoulder repairs from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Rockingham County line (Grottoes town limits). January 9-10 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) – Roadway and utility improvements between Route 608 (Cold Springs Road) and Route 887 (Vance Lane). Occasional flagger traffic control during daylight hours through January 18.

(UPDATE) Route 616 (Dam Town Road) – Flagger traffic control for roadway improvements between Route 777 (Knightly Lane) and Route 926 (River Bend Drive), January 7- May 2019 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Route 742 (Willow Spout Road) – Alternating lane closures for Rural Rustic Road improvements between Route 744 (Leaport Road) and Route 11 (Lee Highway), 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through January 31.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 239 to 240, northbound and southbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for bridge maintenance over North River. January 7-18 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 248 to 247, southbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for bridge maintenance over Country Club Road, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through January 11.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 290 (Huffman Drive) – Brief slow roll closure between Route 42 (John Wayland Highway) and Route 701 (Dayton) for utility work crossing the roadway, January 7 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 42 (Senedo Road) – Left shoulder closure from Route 711 (Lutz Hollow Road) to Route 720 (Crooked Run Road) for utility work. January 7-11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
