SALEM DISTRICT: WATCH FOR ICY SPOTS ON INTERSTATES AND MANY MAIN ROADS

SALEM (4:45 a.m.) – Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews and contractors have been plowing and treating roads in portions of western Virginia since last night. Counties to the west of Roanoke along the West Virginia border and in the New River Valley received the most snow.

This morning, drivers will find the interstates (I-81 and I-77) and most primary roads (1-599) are mostly clear with isolated slick spots. With temperatures still below freezing, drivers should use caution on bridges, ramps and overpasses where there may be icy patches or slick spots.

Many secondary roads in the New River Valley (Montgomery and Giles counties) and Craig County are snow covered.  Conditions will improve throughout the day as snowplow drivers continue to make progress on these routes.
