VDOT TO HOLD MEETING ON NEW ROUNDABOUT FOR ROUTE 122 AND HARDY ROAD INTERSECTION IN FRANKLIN COUNTY

SALEM — On Thursday, January 23, from 5 to 7 p.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a citizens information meeting to present plans to construct a roundabout as a safety improvement at the intersection of Route 122 (Booker T. Washington Highway) and Route 636 (Hardy Road) in Franklin County.

The meeting will be held at Burnt Chimney Elementary School located at 80 Burnt Chimney Road in Wirtz.

The meeting is being held to provide an opportunity for citizens or organizations to give input on the project and will be held in an “open-house” format with no formal presentation given. VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the project and answer questions.

VDOT is pursuing changing the scope of a previously funded safety improvement project at the Route 122 and Hardy Road intersection and refining the design to include a roundabout to provide improvements that enhance safety given the more recent crash pattern.

Comments about the project may be submitted at the hearing or until February 2, 2020, to Mr. Jim Henegar, PE, Virginia Department of Transportation, 731 Harrison Avenue, Salem, VA 24153. Comments also can be emailed to jim.henegar@vdot.virginia.gov. Please reference “Route 122/636 Intersection Public Comment” in the subject heading.

Anyone requiring special assistance to attend and participate in this meeting may contact Jim Henegar at 540-387-5353, 800-367-7623 or TTY/TDD 711.
