TRAFFIC ALERT: ROUTE 460 CROSSOVER TO BE CLOSED AS PART OF S-CURVE PROJECT AT MONTVALE
Closure will affect traffic turning from Wilkerson Mill Road onto westbound Route 460
SALEM – Beginning Wednesday, Nov. 4, the median crossover on Route 460 in Bedford County near Montvale located at Route 726 (Wilkerson Mill Road) will be closed due to work on the current road improvement project. The crossover will remain closed until summer or fall of 2021.
The closure will mean that drivers will not be able to turn left from Wilkerson Mill Road onto westbound Route 460. This will primarily impact Misty Ridge Lane residents.
Drivers can still turn right onto eastbound Route 460 and make a U-turn to proceed westbound. Motorists can also use Route 691 (Quarterwood Road) as an alternative route to access westbound Route 460.
The primary purpose of the road improvement project is to enhance safety by realigning 1.4 miles of the eastbound lanes of Route 460 in Bedford County near Montvale to improve safety by eliminating existing “S” curves.
The Virginia Department of Transportation reminds drivers that the speed limit on eastbound and westbound Route 460 is reduced to 45 mph in this work zone.
Drivers should pay attention to message boards posted to alert motorists of upcoming lane closures and traffic pattern changes.
Work on the project started in summer 2020 and is expected to be completed in fall 2021.
