TRAFFIC ALERT: CROWELL GAP ROAD TO CLOSE FOR ROUTE 220 BRIDGE REPAIRS IN ROANOKE COUNTY
Northbound Route 220 will shift onto the new bridge when Crowell Gap Road reopens
SALEM – As part of the bridge construction on Route 220 over Back Creek, Route 657 (Crowell Gap Road) will be closed for several weeks in March.
Beginning the week of March 9, paving and pavement marking operations will take place on northbound Route 220 requiring Route 657 (Crowell Gap Road) to be closed to traffic at the intersection with Route 220. Drivers will need to seek alternate routes such as Yellow Mountain Road to access Crowell Gap Road from Route 220. Message boards will alert motorists.
In addition to the closure of Crowell Gap Road, drivers should expect lane closures and delays along northbound Route 220. Once paving operations on northbound Route 220 are complete, traffic traveling northbound on Route 220 will be switched onto the new bridge.
Crowell Gap Road is expected to re-open mid to late March, weather permitting.
Travelers on Route 220 in the area of the project may continue to experience lane and shoulder closures and a reduction to one lane is possible during non-peak hours.
