TRAFFIC ALERT: TEMPORARY SIGNAL ON ROUTE 8 AT EXIT 114 SCHEDULED TO FULLY ACTIVATE IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY
SALEM - The bridge replacement of the two Interstate 81 bridges at exit 114 over Route 8 is currently underway. As part of the project, a pair of temporary traffic signal has been installed that will be used to control traffic delays on the Interstate throughout the duration of the project.
These temporary traffic signals are scheduled to begin to flash next week through Memorial Day Weekend and effective, Wednesday, May 29, will become fully active to traffic. The signals will control traffic movements for the on-ramps from Route 8 onto I-81 and the off-ramps from I-81 onto Route 8. Message boards will alert drivers.
As construction continues, lane closures, traffic shifts and road detours are possible in the area and the speed limit on I-81 will be reduced to 60 mph.
The project is expected to be completed in July 2021.
