SALEM DISTRICT: DRIVERS SHOULD EXPECT SLICK OR ICY ROADS THIS MORNING
SALEM – Freezing rain and precipitation this morning may cause slick roads in parts of southwestern Virginia. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has applied brine as a pre-treatment on our interstates and major primary routes as well as some trouble spots in the mountains ahead of the storm.
Pavement temperatures are varied throughout southwestern Virginia but motorists are advised to use caution on their commute this morning as roads may ice up with road temperatures dropping below freezing. Drivers should pay particular attention to colder areas such as bridges, overpasses, ramps, higher elevations and shady spots where ice may form first.
Motorists are encouraged to check the road conditions before travel this morning, allow some extra time and use caution out on the roadways.
Before traveling, motorists can find current road conditions by calling 511 or visiting www.511Virginia.org.
To report downed trees or debris on state maintained roadways, contact VDOT’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-367-7623.
The Salem District includes the counties of Bedford, Botetourt, Carroll, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Henry, Giles, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski and Roanoke.
