NEWLY REHABILITATED ROUTE 657 (ASHCAKE ROAD) BRIDGE OVER I-95 REOPENS
Bridge rehabilitation project extends life cycle of the bridge

HANOVER, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Richmond District reopened the Route 657 (Ashcake Road) Bridge over I-95 in Hanover County this week, marking the successful completion of the $6.1 million project initiated in the fall of 2022.

The project focused on enhancing the bridge's vertical clearance, address structural issues, and extend its overall lifespan. A significant improvement involved raising the vertical clearance beneath the bridge to a minimum of 16 feet 6 inches, strategically reducing the risk of bridge strikes. As the rehabilitation project nears its conclusion, only minor punch list items remain, ensuring a smoother and safer experience for drivers utilizing the bridge.

Anyone with questions about the project can call VDOT’s customer service center at 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623).
