SOUTH CHESTERFIELD—On Friday, May 21, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) completed a $15.7 million project to rehabilitate the I-195 south bridge over Powhite Parkway (Route 76) and CSX rail in the City of Richmond. Work included repairing the existing bridge deck and structural steel to extend the life cycle of the bridge.

Work began in fall 2019 and involved a long-term closure of the ramp from Cary Street/Cameron Avenue to I-195 south with a detour in place. The ramp is now open and the detour route has been lifted. All lanes of I-195 south remained open throughout the project.

The project was awarded to Corman Kokosing Construction Company of Annapolis Junction, Maryland for $9.1 million in mid-2019. The existing structure was built in 1975 and carries approximately 12,700 vehicles per day.
