I-95 NORTH/HERMITAGE ROAD INTERCHANGE IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT NOW COMPLETE IN RICHMOND
Newly extended deceleration lane will enhance safety and reduce congestion
RICHMOND — On Monday, January 6, the Virginia Department of Transportation completed an interchange improvements project to improve traffic flow at the I-95 north/Hermitage Road interchange (at Arthur Ashe Boulevard, Exit 78) in the City of Richmond.
The $2.7 million project extended the deceleration lane from I-95 north to Hermitage Road and widened the shoulder to enhance safety and alleviate congestion. Construction began in July 2019 and was completed on schedule and on budget.
The Hermitage Road interchange improvements project is one of multiple projects along the Interstate 95 corridor in the Richmond area that will substantially improve traffic flow in the region. This multi-year initiative includes improving signage, realigning lanes and installing roundabouts, as well as modernizing existing assets and information technology.
