I-395/Route 1 Southbound Exit 8C Nighttime Closures in Arlington Oct. 4 & 5
Lane closures, full closures with detour during joint reconstruction
ARLINGTON – On Wednesday night, Oct. 4, and continuing Thursday night, Oct. 5, the southbound I-395/Route 1 Exit 8C bridge will be closed for joint reconstruction work related to the I-395/Route 1 Southbound Exit 8C Bridge Repairs Project, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The southbound I-395/Route 1 Exit 8C ramp will have a single lane closure from 9 p.m. to midnight, followed by a full closure from midnight to 4 a.m., and another single lane closure from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m both days, weather permitting.
During the full closures, traffic will be detoured via southbound I-395, South Glebe Road (Route 120, Exit 7), northbound I-395, South Hayes Street (northbound I-395 Exit 8C), 18th Street South, South Eads Street and 20th Street South back to southbound Route 1 (Richmond Highway).
The bridge weight limit is posted at 20 tons.
The I-395/Route 1 Southbound Exit 8C Bridge Repairs Project includes retrofitting and spot painting structural steel, as well as replacing the catcher beam system and strip seal at the joint. The project is scheduled for completion later this fall.
Drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.
