Ramp from I-66 West to Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail Station to Close for Approximately Three Weeks Beginning Friday Night, January 21, for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project

FAIRFAX – A long-term closure of the ramp from westbound I-66 to Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail Station (exit to Country Creek Road and Virginia Center Boulevard) will begin next Friday, January 21, at 11 p.m. for utility work as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. The ramp will remain closed for approximately three weeks.     

Drivers will travel farther west and be detoured around the closure via Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) South and I-66 East. As an alternative, motorists can exit the interstate to Nutley Street (prior to the ramp closure), stay to the right to Nutley Street North, then stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Virginia Center Boulevard.

Ramp from I-66 West to Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Metrorail Station (Country Creek Road and Virginia Center Boulevard)

  • The ramp will be closed beginning Friday, January 21, at 11 p.m. and remain closed continuously for approximately three weeks for utility work.
  • Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to the exit to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 South, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to I-66 East. Traffic will exit I-66 East at Nutley Street, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to Nutley Street North, then stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to Virginia Center Boulevard. 
  • As an alternative, drivers can exit the interstate to Nutley Street (prior to the ramp closure), stay to the right to Nutley Street North, then stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Virginia Center Boulevard.
