Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges September 4 - 12 for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project

FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours at the following I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Details include:

Tuesday night, September 6, through Thursday night, September 8
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West
The ramp will be closed each night from midnight to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 West.

 

Tuesday night, September 6
Ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs to I-66 East.

 

Tuesday night, September 6
Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East  
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east on Route 50, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East. 

 

Tuesday night, September 6, and Wednesday night, September 7
Ramp from I-66 West to I-495 South
The ramp will be closed both nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Nutley Street, stay to the left on the ramp and turn left at the traffic signal onto Nutley Street South, stay right to I-66 East, then follow signs to I-495 South.

 

Tuesday night, September 6
Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for barrier work. Traffic will be directed to I-495 South, exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, then stay to the right following signs to I-495 North.

 

Tuesday night, September 6, through Friday night, September 9
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East
Ramp closure is planned on multiple nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for barrier work and a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to exit prior to the closure to I-66 West, exit to Nutley Street, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Nutley Street South, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.

 

Tuesday night, September 6, through Thursday night, September 8
Ramp from Virginia Center Boulevard to I-66 West
Ramp closure is planned on multiple nights between midnight and 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Drivers will be directed to continue east on Virginia Center Boulevard to Nutley Street. At the traffic signal, turn right onto Nutley Street South, then turn left at the traffic signal to access the ramp to I-66 West.

 

Wednesday night, September 7, through Friday night, September 9  
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North and South Centreville
Ramp closure is planned on multiple nights between midnight and 4 a.m. for paving, utility work, and light pole installation. Traffic will be detoured prior to the closure to Route 28 South, then follow signs to Route 29 North or South. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10  
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 West 
The ramp will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. for paving and striping. Traffic will be directed to continue farther south, exit to Route 29 South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Wednesday, September 7, and Thursday, September 8
Ramp from Braddock Road/Walney Road to Route 28 South  
The ramp will be closed both nights from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic will be directed to Westfields Boulevard to reach Route 28 South. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Wednesday night, September 7  
Ramp from Route 286 North to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to exit to I-66 West, stay right to Route 286 South, then stay right to I-66 East.

 

Thursday night, September 8
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for survey work and a traffic shift. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 North, stay to the right to I-66 West, and then follow signs to Route 50 East.

 

Friday, September 9
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 South
The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. for bridge work. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 29 Centreville, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 North, then follow signs to Route 28 South. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Friday, September 9, through Monday September 12
Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, continuously through through 5 a.m. Monday for a traffic shift and permanent ramp opening. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road onto Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

 

Friday night, September 9
Ramps from Route 286 North and South to I-66 West
The ramps will be closed from midnight to 5 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic from both directions of Route 286 will be directed to I-66 East, exit to Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West. 

Saturday night, September 10
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 East and West
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 123, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 North, stay to the right to I-66 West, and then follow signs to Route 50 East or Route 50 West.

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 29 North and South Centreville
Ramp closure is planned on multiple nights between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 286 North, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 29 North and South.Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramps from Route 29 North and South Centreville to I-66 East
Ramp closures are planned on multiple nights between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. for paving. Route 29 South traffic will be directed farther south to Stone Road, make a U-turn onto Route 29 North, exit to Route 28 North, then follow signs to I-66 East. Route 29 North traffic will be directed farther north to Route 28 North, then follow signs to I-66 East. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramps from Route 28 North and South to I-66 East
Ramp closures are planned between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. on multiple nights for paving and overhead bridge work. Southbound traffic will be directed farther south to Route 29 South, continue for about one mile and follow signs to I-66 East. Northbound traffic will also be directed to Route 29 South (prior to the closure), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, continue for about one mile and follow signs to I-66 East. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North
Ramp closure is planned between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. on multiple nights for paving and striping. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 286 North, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 28 North. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights it conflicts with other closures.

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramp from Route 234 Bypass (Prince William Parkway) to I-66 East
Ramp closure is planned between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be detoured to I-66 West, exit to Route 29 North, turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right to I-66 East. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 234 Bypass
Ramp closure is planned between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road), turn left onto Route 234 Business North and stay to the left, then turn left at the traffic signal to I-66 West and follow signs to Route 234 Bypass. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramps from Route 29 North and South Gainesville to I-66 East
Ramp closures are planned between 10:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to I-66 West, take the exit to Route 15, stay to the left and use the left-most lane to Route 15 South, then follow signs to I-66 East. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 North and South Gainesville
Ramp closure is planned between 10:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. on multiple nights for paving.  Traffic will be directed farther west to Route 15, stay to the left and use the left-most lane to Route 15 South, stay to the left to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 29 North or South. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramp from Route 234 Bypass to I-66 West
Ramp closure is planned between 10:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be detoured to I-66 East, exit to Route 234 Business, stay to the left on the ramp and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 234 Business North, then stay left and turn left at the next traffic signal to I-66 West. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Bypass
Ramp closure is planned between 10:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. on multiple nights for paving and striping. Traffic will be detoured farther west, exit to Route 29 North, turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 234 Bypass. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business North and South
Ramp closure is planned between 10:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west, exit to Route 29 North, turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then exit to Route 234 Business. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 234 Business North and South
Ramp closure is planned between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. on multiple nights for paving.  Traffic will be directed to exit prior to the closure to Route 234 Bypass South, turn left onto Balls Ford Road to reach Route 234 Business. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramp from Route 234 Business North and South to I-66 West
Ramp closure is planned between 10:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be detoured north of I-66 to Route 29 South, travel about four miles then follow signs to I-66 West. As an alternate route, drivers on Route 234 Business can go west on Balls Ford Road, turn right onto Route 234 Bypass, then follow signs to I-66 West. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramp from Route 234 Business North and South to I-66 East
Ramp closure is planned between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Northbound traffic will be directed to continue north for about one mile and turn right onto Route 29 North, travel approximately four miles to the Route 29 Interchange in Centreville, then follow signs to I-66 East. 

Southbound traffic will be directed to turn right onto Balls Ford Road, turn left at the traffic signal onto Miramar Drive, turn left at the traffic signal onto Coverstone Drive, then turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 234 Business North. Traffic will continue north for about 1.5 miles and turn right onto Route 29 North, travel approximately four miles to the Route 29 Interchange in Centreville and follow signs to I-66 East. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday night, September 4, through Saturday night, September 10   
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
Ramp closure is planned between midnight and 4 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, to Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures. 

Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road
Ramp closure is planned between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, to Route 29 North, follow signs to Route 28 North, then follow signs to the Braddock Road/Walney Road left exit. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramp from Route 29 North Centreville to I-66 West
Ramp closure is planned between 10:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be detoured farther north to Machen Road/Trinity Parkway, stay to the left and make a U-turn onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, September 4, through Saturday, September 10 
Ramp from Route 29 South Centreville to I-66 West
Ramp closure is planned between 10:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to make a left at the traffic signal for the ramp from Route 29 North to I-66 West. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.
