Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges Next Week, August 14-20, For the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project
UPDATE (8/16/2022): The ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North Gainesville is scheduled to be closed an additional night this week. The closure will also be in effect Wednesday, August 17, from midnight to 4 a.m.
FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at the following I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Details include:
Sunday night, August 14, though Saturday, August 20
Ramp from I-66 West to I-495 South
The ramp will be closed Sunday through Tuesday nights from midnight to 4 a.m. each night, and Wednesday through Saturday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night for striping and bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Nutley Street, stay to the left on the ramp and turn left at the traffic signal onto Nutley Street South, stay right to I-66 East, then follow signs to I-495 South.
Sunday night, August 14, through Tuesday night, August 16
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Bypass (Prince William Parkway) South
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for a traffic shift. Traffic will be detoured farther west, exit to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North, turn to the left at the traffic signal on to Route 29 South, stay to the right to I-66 East, and then follow signs to Route 234 Bypass.
Sunday night, August 14, though Tuesday night, August 16
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North Gainesville
The ramp will be closed each night from midnight to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed farther west to Route 15, stay to left and use the left-most lane to Route 15 South, staying to the left to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 29 North.
Monday night, August 15, and Tuesday night, August 16
Ramp from Route 28 North to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramp from northbound Route 28 to Braddock Road/Walney Road will be closed both nights from midnight to 4 a.m. Traffic will be directed to continue farther north to the Westfields Boulevard Interchange. Drivers traveling to Braddock Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard West, then continue to Braddock Road. Drivers traveling to Walney Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard East, then turn right onto Walney Road.
Monday night, August 15, and Tuesday night, August 16
Ramp from Braddock Road/Walney Road to Route 28 South
The ramp will be closed both nights from midnight to 4 a.m. Traffic will be directed to Westfields Boulevard to reach Route 28 South.
Monday night, August 15, and Tuesday night, August 16
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West
The ramp will be closed both nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for milling and paving. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 West.
Monday night, August 15, through Wednesday night, August 17
Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North
The ramp will be closed each night from midnight to 4 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to I-495 South, take the exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, then stay to the right following signs to I-495 North.
Monday night, August 15
Ramp from I-495 South to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for sign installation. Traffic will be detoured farther south to the exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, stay to the right following signs to I-495 North and I-66, then follow signs to I-66 West.
Tuesday night, August 16, through Friday night, August 19
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed each night from midnight to 4 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) East, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 East.
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed each night from midnight to 4 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 West, stay to the right to I-495 South, then follow signs to I-66 West.
Tuesday night, August 16, and Wednesday night, August 17
Ramps from Route 29 North and South (Gainesville) to I-66 East
The ramps will be closed both nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be directed to exit to I-66 West, take the exit to Route 15, stay to the left to Route 15 South, and then exit to I-66 East.
Tuesday, August 16
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for inspection work. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 28 North.
Tuesday night, August 16, through Thursday night, August 18
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 East
The ramp will be closed each night from midnight to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to the Route 50 West exit, stay to the right to I-66 West, then stay to the right to Route 50 East.
Wednesday, August 17
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 South
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 North, then follow signs to Route 28 South.
Thursday, August 18
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for inspection work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther south, exit to Route 29 (Lee Highway) South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West.
Friday night, August 19
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 West.
Friday, August 19
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for inspection work. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North.
Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for inspection work. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, to Route 29 North, follow signs to Route 28 North, then follow signs to the Braddock Road/Walney Road left exit.
Friday, August 19, and Saturday, August 20
Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 South
The ramp will be closed from Friday from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. and Saturday from 10 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured to I-495 North, continue to Route 7, stay to the right to I-495 South.
Saturday night, August 20
Ramp from Route 286 South (Fairfax County Parkway) to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be detoured further south to exit to I-66 East, stay to the right to exit to Route 50, use the loop ramps and follow signs to I-66 West.
