Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges, May 8-14, for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project

FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at the following I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Details include:

Sunday, May 8, and Monday, May 9
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North   
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. both nights for a traffic shift. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 28 North. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights it conflicts with other closures.

 

Sunday, May 8
Ramp from Route 29 (Lee Highway) South to Route 28 North  
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Drivers on Route 29 South heading to Route 28 North and/or I-66 East will be detoured farther south, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East. Those heading to Route 28 North will then follow signs to Route 28 North.

 

Sunday, May 8, through Friday, May, 13
Ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street South
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly for drainage work. Traffic will be directed to exit to Nutley Street North, stay to the right and turn right at the traffic signal onto Nutley Street South. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights that the ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street North is closed.

 

Monday night, May 9, through Friday night, May 13
Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 5 a.m. nightly for barrier work and a concrete pour. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road onto Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

 

Monday night, May 9, and Tuesday night, May 10
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 East 
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. both nights for paving. Traffic will be detoured to Route 50 West, exit to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, then stay to the right to Route 50 East

 

Monday, May 9, through Wednesday May 11, and Saturday, May 14
Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North  
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. each night for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to I-495 South, take the exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, then stay to the right following signs to I-495 North.

 

Tuesday, May 10, through Saturday, May 14
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) East, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 East. 

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 West, stay to the right to I-495 South, then follow signs to I-66 West.

 

Wednesday night, May 11, and Thursday night, May 12
Ramp from Route 50 West to Fair Oaks Mall
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. both nights for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 608 South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then turn right at one of the two entrances to the Fair Oaks Mall property.

 

Wednesday, May 11, through Saturday night, May 14
Ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street North 
The ramp will be closed nightly Wednesday through Friday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Saturday night from midnight to 5 a.m. for drainage work and a traffic shift. Traffic will exit to Nutley Street South, stay to the left and make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Saintsbury Drive onto Nutley Street North. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights that the ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street South is closed.

 

Thursday night, May 12, and Friday night, May 13
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. both nights for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east to Route 50 West, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 286 North. 

 

Thursday night, May 12 and Friday night, May 13
Ramp from Route 286 North to I-66 West
Traffic will be directed farther north to the exit to Fair Lakes Parkway, stay to the left on the ramp and turn left from the left-most left-turn lane at the traffic signal onto Fair Lakes Parkway West. Traffic will stay left to turn left at the next traffic signal onto the ramp to Route 286 South, then follow signs to I-66 West.

 

Thursday, May 12
Ramp from Route 28 North to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Westfields Boulevard West, stay to the right to Route 28 South, then follow signs to I-66 East. 

 

Friday night, May 13, and Saturday night, May 14
Ramp from I-66 West to Nutley Street South 
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 5 a.m. both nights for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed farther west to the exit to Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Station, stay to the right onto Country Creek Road, continue onto Virginia Center Boulevard, then at the Nutley Street traffic signal turn right to head south.
