Overnight Closures, Stoppages Of I-66 West in Centreville for Bridge Beam Installation Next Week, February 21-25
On Monday night, February 21, detours will be posted for I-66 West

UPDATE (2/23/2022): The schedule for the installation of bridge beams has been changed as follows: I-66 West near Stringfellow Road will be closed during the overnight hours Thursday, February 24 (Friday, February 25, is backup), from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. I-66 West will be reduced to a single travel lane Wednesday, February 23, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Friday from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

FAIRFAX – All lanes of I-66 West near Stringfellow Road in Centreville will be closed during the overnight hours Monday, February 21, for continued installation of bridge beams for a new access ramp for the future I-66 Express Lanes. Westbound I-66 traffic will be detoured using Route 28 North and Westfields Boulevard during this period. On Tuesday through Friday nights, westbound I-66 near Stringfellow Road will be reduced to a single travel lane with stoppages for this work.

Drivers traveling on I-66 West during this time should expect delays and consider using alternate routes.

All work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.

Monday, February 21
I-66 West from west of Stringfellow Road to Route 28

  • I-66 West will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
  • All traffic will be detoured onto the new I-66 West collector-distributor lane, and then directed to exit the interstate to Route 28 North, travel to the exit to Westfields Boulevard West, stay to the right to Route 28 South, and then follow signs to I-66 West.
  • The ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road will remain open.
  • All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Tuesday, February 22, through Friday, February 25
I-66 West from west of Stringfellow Road to Route 28

  • I-66 West will be reduced to a single travel lane nightly from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Friday from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes during overnight hours.
  • All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. weekdays, and by 7 a.m. Saturday.
