I-66 Westbound Nighttime Lane Closures in Rosslyn Nov. 7
Update: Lane closures and traffic shift for Rosslyn Tunnel project postponed to Nov. 14
Please note: The westbound I-66 single-lane closures and traffic shift have been rescheduled for between 10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14 and 5 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15.
ROSSLYN – Westbound I-66 will have single-lane closures from the Route 29 off-ramp (Exit 73: Rosslyn/Key Bridge) to just beyond the Rosslyn Tunnel between 10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7 and 5 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 to implement a traffic shift, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
During that time, the westbound I-66 lanes through the Rosslyn Tunnel will be shifted to right as part of the tunnel rehabilitation project. Last week, the eastbound I-66 lanes through the tunnel were shifted to the right. Both the eastbound and westbound lane shifts are expected to be in place until spring 2024.
The Rosslyn Tunnel rehabilitation project includes removing the existing tunnel ceiling to improve long-term maintenance; upgrading electrical systems; installing a new fireproofing system; repairing steel beams, abutment and pier concrete, and joints; cleaning and repairing bearings; and replacing the tunnel lighting system. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2025.
