I-66 East Travel Lanes Approaching Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) to Split Beginning on or about Saturday, June 18
Drivers will stay right at lane split to exit to Route 234 Business during long-term lane realignment

FAIRFAX – Travel lanes on I-66 East between Groveton Road and Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) in Manassas will be shifted into a split roadway configuration during the early morning hours on or about Saturday, June 18. When this traffic change is implemented, the two right travel lanes will be separated from the two left travel lanes by a barrier-enclosed construction area. Drivers will be directed by signs and message boards to stay to the right at the lane split to access Route 234 Business. This traffic pattern will remain in place through fall 2022.

This traffic shift is being implemented as part of the multi-day roadway paving and restriping operation for the future I-66 Express Lanes that began Tuesday, June 14, along I-66 East between Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville and Route 29 in Centreville. The left travel lane in this area will remain closed through Monday, June 20, as crews continue to progress east with paving. During the overnight hours Friday, June 17, through Sunday, June 19, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, multiple travel lanes on I-66 East between Route 29 Gainesville and Route 29 Centreville will be closed for crews to restripe the newly paved roadway.

Drivers should always use caution and pay attention to lane markings and roadway signs in construction zones.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.

The Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project will provide new travel choices and congestion relief across a 22.5-mile stretch of I-66 from Route 29 in Gainesville to the I-495 Interchange. Improvements include new Express Lanes, more than 4,000 new park-and-ride spaces with convenient access to the Express Lanes, new and improved bus service and transit routes, interchange improvements, and 11 miles of new bike and pedestrian trails. Construction began in late 2017 with the Express Lanes slated to open later this year.
