UPDATE (8/26): The I-66 East to Route 50 West ramp will close at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 26 for work to begin.

UPDATE (8/18): The full weekend ramp closure has been rescheduled to this weekend (August 19-22) and next weekend (August 26-29), with the changes to the exit from I-66 East to Route 50 East and West now planned to occur on Monday, August 29.

FAIRFAX – Drivers exiting I-66 East to Route 50 West will use a new combined exit approximately one mile prior to (west of) Route 50 beginning on or about Monday morning, August 22. The new exit location is immediately after the Monument Drive Bridge over I-66 and provides access to Route 50 East and West. This will be the permanent location of Exit 57 A/B as part of the Transform 66 Outside of the Beltway Project.

To implement this traffic pattern change, drivers should expect the following:

Friday, August 19, through Monday, August 22

• Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, August 19, continuously through 5 a.m. Monday, August 22, the ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 West will be closed.
• Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 North, stay to the right to I-66 West, and then follow signs to Route 50 West.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled to the following night if inclement conditions occur. 

Drivers should always use caution and pay attention to lane markings and roadway signs in construction zones. 

The I-66/Route 50 Interchange is being rebuilt to add Express Lanes access to and from the east and to construct a new shared-use path as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
