Update: Utterback Store Road reopened to traffic August 19
Update: Utterback Store Road reopened to traffic Thursday, Aug. 19 in its new alignment at Route 7.
GREAT FALLS - Utterback Store Road will be closed at Route 7 from 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 16 to 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 20 while crews reconstruct the intersection as part of the Route 7 Corridor Improvements Project. The work will realign the angle of approach and relocate the intersection of Route 7 and Utterback Store Road approximately 150 feet west of the existing location. Lane shifts along westbound Route 7 in the vicinity of Utterback Store Road will also occur as part of the realignment work.
Drivers will use Georgetown Pike (Route 193) between Utterback Store Road and Route 7 during the closure. All residences, businesses and other public facilities will remain accessible via the detour route.
Please see the map below for details.
On or about Tuesday, Aug. 17, drivers on westbound Route 7 will experience a lane shift to the north between Reston Parkway and Reston Avenue.
Drivers to and from Northfalls Court will use the service road for access between Route 7 westbound and Northfalls Court.
Please see the map below for details.
On or about Thursday, Aug. 19, drivers on westbound Route 7 will experience a lane shift to the north between Springvale Road and Utterback Store Road.
The following traffic changes will be in effect:
- Access between Riva Ridge Drive and westbound Route 7 will reopen.
- Drivers on westbound Route 7 to Markell Court will proceed to Bishopsgate Way and U-turn to eastbound Route 7 to access Markell Court. This is a permanent change.
Please see the map below for details.
All work is weather-dependent and subject to change.
For information on intersection movements at the completion of construction, please see the interactive map on the project website.
Please note crews are only working within the VDOT right of way and where rights have been acquired from property owners (read more).
As a reminder, the Route 7 speed limit has been reduced to 45 miles per hour in active work zones between Reston Avenue and Jarrett Valley Drive, and Virginia law prohibits the use of handheld cell phones while driving through an active work zone.
Please use caution and be alert to work zone signs, potential flagger or police direction, and watch for traffic shifts. Slow-moving vehicles and equipment may be entering or exiting the road.
