Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Centreville Reduced to Two Lanes Under I-66 Next Weekend, July 30 – August 2, for Continued I-66 Bridge Beam Installation
Flaggers will direct single lane traffic during overnight hours

FAIRFAX – Continued bridge beam installation for the new I-66 bridges over Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Centreville will require reducing Route 29 to a single travel lane in each direction starting at 9 p.m. Friday, July 30, continuing through 4 a.m. Monday, August 2. Two-way traffic will run on the northbound side of Route 29 beginning around 9 p.m. Friday through Saturday evening. The traffic pattern will switch around 6 p.m. Saturday, with two-way traffic running on the southbound side of Route 29 for the remainder of the weekend. Closures are needed for crews to safely lift bridge beams into place over Route 29. Work will be on-going throughout the weekend during both daytime and nighttime hours.

During Friday and Saturday nights, flaggers will alternate a single lane of traffic in each direction. No left turns will be allowed on the ramps to and from I-66 during this time. Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area and consider using alternate routes. This is a continuation of beam lift installation conducted the previous weekend, July 23-26.

The I-66 bridges over Route 29 are being reconstructed as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. The bridges are being lengthened, widened, and raised to accommodate the new Express Lanes and provide room for any future mass transit along I-66 and future widening of Route 29. This work is being done in phases in order to maintain traffic on I-66 throughout construction.
