Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) over I-66 to be Reduced to a Single Travel Lane in Each Direction During Overnight Hours August 11 and 12 for Bridge Deck Work

FAIRFAX – Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) over I-66 will be reduced to one travel lane in each direction during the overnight hours Wednesday and Thursday, August 11 and 12, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. The southbound lanes of Route 123 over I-66 will be closed with two-way traffic running in the northbound travel lanes. The closure is necessary for concrete work on the bridge deck of the new Route 123 South bridge over I-66 as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Drivers should expect delays and consider using alternate routes.

Message boards on Route 123 will provide advance notice of lane closures and traffic stoppages.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.

When complete, the reconstructed Route 123/I-66 Interchange will provide direct access to and from the new Express Lanes for both eastbound and westbound travelers. A new shared-use path through the interchange will connect the new I-66 corridor trail with trails in the City of Fairfax.
