SPRINGFIELD – Northbound Rolling Road (Route 638) between Kenwood Avenue and Old Keene Mill Road (Route 644) will have lane closures, weather permitting, Thursday, July 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to implement a traffic shift as part of the Rolling Road and Old Keene Mill Road intersection improvements, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

At least one lane of northbound Rolling Road will remain open as crews implement the temporary traffic shift. Beginning around 3 p.m. Thursday, northbound Rolling Road traffic between Old Keene Mill Road and Kenwood Avenue will be shifted to the left onto new pavement. The shift will allow for reconstruction of the existing northbound lanes. 

The work is part of the Rolling Road and Old Keene Mill Road intersection improvements that include:

• Adding a second left-turn lane from northbound Rolling Road to westbound Old Keene Mill Road
• Adding a dedicated right-turn lane from northbound Rolling Road to eastbound Old Keene Mill Road
• Upgrading the traffic signal
• Improving the intersection alignment

The intersection improvements are scheduled to be complete later this year.
