Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges, October 31-November 6, for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project
FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at several I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Details include:
Sunday, October 31, through Saturday night, November 6
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
The ramp will be closed Sunday through Friday night from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. nightly, and Saturday night from midnight to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift and fence work. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, exit to Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North. (Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with other detours.)
Thursday, November 4, and Friday, November 5
Ramp from Route 28 North to I-66 East
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East
The ramps will be closed each night from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for a traffic shift. Southbound traffic will be directed farther south to Route 29 (Lee Highway) South, continue for about one mile and follow signs to I-66 East. Northbound traffic will also be directed to Route 29 South (prior to the closed ramp), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, continue for about one mile and follow signs to I-66 East.
Friday, November 5, and Saturday, November 6
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 South
The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night for a traffic shift. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 29 Centreville, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 North, then follow signs to Route 28 South.
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue south, exit to Route 29 South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West.
Ramp from Braddock Road East and West to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night for a traffic shift. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, exit to Route 29 South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West.
Monday night, November 1, through Thursday night, November 4
Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for barrier and ditch work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road onto Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.
Wednesday night, November 3, through Friday night, November 5
Ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for barrier and guardrail work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs for I-66 East. (Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with other detours.)
Friday, November 5, and Saturday, November 6
Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. each night for drainage work. Traffic will be directed farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at Waples Mill Road onto Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East. One lane will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. each morning.
Monday, November 1, and Tuesday, November 2
Ramp from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) North and South to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for a traffic shift. Route 123 traffic in both directions will be directed to I-66 West, exit to Route 50 East, then stay to the left to I-66 East.
Wednesday night, November 3
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 123 South
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 50 East, stay to the left to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 123 South.
Monday night, November 1, and Tuesday night, November 2
Ramp from Nutley Street South to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for striping. Traffic will be directed farther south, stay to the left to make a U-turn at the signal at Saintsbury Drive onto Nutley Street North, then continue to the ramp to I-66 West.
Ramp from I-66 West to Nutley Street North and South
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for striping. Traffic will be directed farther west to the exit to Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Station, stay to the right onto Country Creek Road, continue onto Virginia Center Boulevard, then at the traffic signal turn left to Nutley Street North or turn right to Nutley Street South.
Tuesday night, November 2, and Wednesday night, November 3
Ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street North and South
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be detoured farther east to I-495 North, continue north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) West, stay to the right to I-495 South, exit to I-66 West, then exit to Nutley Street North or South. (Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with other detours.)
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
