Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges Next Week, August 1-7, for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project

UPDATE (8/5/2021): An additional night has been added to the schedule of the closure of the ramp from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) North and South to I-66 East. The ramp will also be closed Friday night, August 6, from midnight to 4 a.m.

FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at several I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Details include:

Monday, August 2, through Thursday, August 5
Ramp from 495 North to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. each night for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to take the ramp to I-66 West, continue to the exit for Nutley Street and stay to the left. At the traffic signal, traffic will turn left on to Nutley Street South, then stay to the left to turn left at the next traffic signal to reach I-66 East.

Tuesday night, August 3, through Thursday night, August 5
Ramp from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) North and South to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed each night from midnight to 4 a.m. for traffic shifts on the ramp. Traffic will be directed to I-66 West, exit to Route 50 East, stay to the left and follow signs to I-66 East.

Friday, August 6, and Saturday, August 7
Ramp from Nutley Street North and South to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night for drainage work. Traffic will be directed to take the exit for I-66 West and exit to Route 123. Traffic will stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal on to Route 123 South. Traffic will then stay to the left and turn left at the next traffic signal to reach I-66 East.

Saturday, August 7
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North
The ramp will be closed 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for crews to implement a traffic shift on I-66 East. Traffic will be directed to exit the interstate (prior to the Route 28 North exit) at Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North.

Saturday, August 7
Ramp from Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Centreville North and South to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. to implement a traffic shift on I-66 East. Northbound Route 29 traffic will be directed about one mile farther north to Route 28 North, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East. Southbound Route 29 traffic will be detoured farther south, stay to the left and make a U-turn at O’Day Drive or Stone Road on to Route 29 North, stay to the right to Route 28 North, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
