Overnight Ramp and Lane Closures on Route 28 at I-66 Interchange Next Week for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project
Braddock Road East also to close at Newton Patent Drive during overnight hours
UPDATE(1/21/2021): This work is planned to begin during the overnight hours of Saturday, January 23.
FAIRFAX – Overnight ramp and lane closures at the I-66/Route 28 Interchange are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours Thursday, January 21, through Saturday, January 23, for crews to shift the Route 28 South travel lanes in preparation for upcoming demolition of the old Route 28 South bridge over I-66. Eastbound Braddock Road will also be closed each night between Newton Patent Drive and Route 28. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area during these times and should consider using alternate routes.
Details include:
Thursday, January 21, through Saturday, January 23
Route 28 South from E.C. Lawrence Park to I-66
- Route 28 South will be reduced to one travel lane approaching I-66 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
- All lanes will open by 5 a.m.
Braddock Road East between Newton Patent Drive and Route 28
- Eastbound Braddock Road will be closed at Newton Patent Drive from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
- Traffic will be directed to travel west on Braddock Road to Westfields Boulevard East, continue on Westfields Boulevard about one mile, then follow signs to Route 28 South.
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 South
- The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
- Traffic will be detoured to the exit for Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville North, turn left at the traffic signal and then follow signs to Route 28 South.
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East
- The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
- Traffic will be detoured farther south to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North, stay to the right to Route 28 North, then follow signs to I-66 East.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
