Overnight Lane Closures and Traffic Stoppages on I-495 South at I-66 Next Week for Overhead Bridge Demolition
FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages are planned on I-495 South approaching I-66 on Monday, April 5, Thursday, April 8, and Friday, April 9, for overhead bridge work and partial demolition of the I-66 West bridge over I-495 South. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area and should consider using alternate routes.
Details include:
Monday, April 5, Thursday, April 8, and Friday, April 9
I-495 South from Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) to I-66
- The I-495 South general purpose lanes will be reduced to a single travel lane approaching I-66 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m.
- No closures are planned on the 495 Express Lanes for this work.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Message boards on I-495 are providing advance notice of lane closures and traffic stoppages.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
The I-66/I-495 Interchange is being reconstructed as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
