Overnight Full Closure of Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North at I-66 Planned for Next Week, April 5-7
Ramps from I-66 East to Route 286 North and from Route 286 North to I-66 West also closed

FAIRFAX – All lanes of Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North at I-66 will be closed during the overnight hours Monday, April 5, through Wednesday, April 7, to allow crews to move a crane into place for continued construction of new I-66 bridge foundations. The I-66 bridges over Route 286 are being widened as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

The ramp from I-66 East to Route 286 North, the ramp from Route 286 North to I-66 West, and two lanes on Route 286 South at I-66 will also be closed during these overnight hours. The left-most lane of northbound and southbound Route 286 will be closed during daytime hours to accommodate construction activity.

Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area during these times and should consider using alternate routes.

Details include:

Monday, April 5, through Wednesday, April 7
Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North at I-66

  • Around 8 p.m. nightly, northbound Route 286 will be reduced to a single travel lane.
  • Between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly, all lanes of Route 286 North at I-66 will be closed.  
  • All northbound traffic will be directed to exit on to I-66 East, travel to Route 50 West, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 286 North.
  • By 5 a.m. daily, two lanes will reopen, with the left-most lane remaining closed. 

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 286 North

  • The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Traffic will be directed to continue farther east to Route 50 West, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 286 North.

Ramp from Route 286 North to I-66 West

  • The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. 
  • Traffic will be directed to exit to I-66 East, travel to Route 50 West, then stay to the right to I-66 West.

Route 286 South at I-66

  • From 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, southbound Route 286 will be reduced to a single travel lane.
  • A second lane will reopen by 5 a.m. daily, with the left-most lane remaining closed.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
