Overnight Closures and Traffic Stoppages on I-66 East and West in Vienna Area Next Week, June 1-5, for Bridge Beam Installation for New Express Lanes Ramps at Vaden Drive
UPDATE (June 3, 2021): This work has been postponed until next week. It is now scheduled to occur during the overnight hours of Tuesday, June 8, through Saturday, June 12.
FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages on I-66 East and West approaching Vaden Drive in Vienna are scheduled to occur Tuesday, June 1, through Saturday, June 5, for installation of beams for the new Express Lanes access ramps at Vaden Drive. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area and should consider using alternate routes.
Details include:
Tuesday, June 1, and Wednesday, June 2
I-66 East from Blake Lane to Vaden Drive
- I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Vaden Drive from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes each night.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Thursday, June 3, and Friday, June 4
I-66 East and West between Blake Lane and Nutley Street
- I-66 East and West will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Vaden Drive from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. (6 a.m. on Saturday).
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes each night.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. (by 6 a.m. on Saturday).
Saturday, June 5
I-66 West from Nutley Street to Vaden Drive
- I-66 West will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Vaden Drive from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes.
- All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
The Vaden Drive Bridge over I-66 is being rebuilt to accommodate the widening of I-66 and add connections to the future I-66 Express Lanes to and from the west. The new, wider bridge includes a shared-use path and opened to traffic on November 24, 2020.
