Overnight Closures and Traffic Stoppages on I-495 South at I-66 Planned April 12-14 for Overhead Bridge Demolition

FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages are planned on I-495 South approaching I-66 Monday, April 12, through Wednesday, April 14, for overhead bridge work and partial demolition of the I-66 West bridge over I-495 South. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project, which is reconstructing the I-66/I-495 Interchange.

Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area and should consider using alternate routes.

Details include:

Monday, April 12, through Wednesday, April 14
I-495 South from Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) to I-66

  • The I-495 South general purpose lanes will be reduced to a single travel lane approaching I-66 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. to allow demolition activity over I-495 travel lanes.
  • Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m.
  • All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Find additional information about demolition activity at the I-495 Interchange here

Additionally, bridge beam installation over I-66 West is planned that will impact traffic on I-66 West and I-495 ramps. Find details about work planned April 9-10 here and work planned April 12-16 here.

Message boards on I-495 are providing advance notice of lane closures and traffic stoppages.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
