Northern Virginia 5 p.m. Update: Road Conditions Improve, but Expect Overnight Refreeze
Crews continue work overnight; drivers asked to limit Monday a.m. travel to avoid slick conditions

FAIRFAX - While crews in Northern Virginia have plowed and treated major routes and are working to clear secondary roads, refreeze is expected along with potential for more precipitation tonight and tomorrow. VDOT asks drivers to limit trips to essential travel Monday morning to avoid slick road conditions.

The Winter Storm Warning from the National Weather Service covering VDOT's Northern Virginia District continues through midnight. An additional wintry mix is expected overnight.

Interstates, primary roads, and heavily traveled secondary roads are mostly clear and wet, but crews will continue to treat overnight as needed for additional precipitation and refreeze. Tree crews will also be working to cut and remove any branches fallen from ice and wind.

Crews also continue clearing snow and treating icy spots in neighborhoods and lower-volume roads. Residents can monitor the progress of plows in neighborhoods at www.vdotplows.org

Key Reminders Tonight and Monday:

Give crews time to plow and treat roads. In neighborhoods, crews will make a passable lane on each neighborhood road. Limit trips to essential travel until all roads are clear.

Clear all snow and ice from your vehicle before driving. Turn on headlights, drive for the conditions and use extreme caution on areas prone to freezing such as bridges, ramps and overpasses. See more winter driving tips
