Bridge Demolition Continues Next Week at I-66/Route 29 (Lee Highway) Interchange in Centreville
Route 29 North reduced to one lane under I-66 during overnight hours January 18-22
FAIRFAX – Demolition of old I-66 bridge piers will require Route 29 (Lee Highway) North in Centreville to be reduced to a single lane during overnight hours next week, Monday, January 18, through Friday, January 22, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area and should consider using alternate routes.
Details include:
Monday, January 18, through Friday, January 22
Route 29 Centreville North at I-66
- Northbound Route 29 in Centreville will be reduced to one travel lane from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly for bridge demolition.
- Demolition work on the old I-66 bridges will continue during the overnight hours through the week.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
The I-66 bridges over Route 29 are being reconstructed as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. The bridges are being lengthened, widened, and raised to accommodate the new Express Lanes and provide room for any future mass transit along I-66 and future widening of Route 29. This work is being done in phases in order to maintain traffic on I-66 throughout construction.
