Shirlington Access to 395 Express Lanes Closed Tonight, March 24 through Thursday, March 26 for Bridge Work
More extended closures at Shirlington Circle scheduled to begin Sunday night, March 29

ALEXANDRIA - Access between Shirlington Circle and the 395 Express Lanes will be closed beginning at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24 until 6 a.m. on Thursday, March 26 to accommodate bridge improvement work as part of the 395 Express Lanes project. This work will require the intermittent reduction of other lanes in Shirlington Circle, but access to the I-395 general purpose lanes and local roads will remain open.

These scheduled closures are needed to complete resurfacing of the bridge deck over I-395, which involves hydro-demolition of the existing deck and installation of new latex overlay. The extended work hours, which are possible due to recent lighter traffic volumes on northern Virginia roads, allow crews to expedite completion of this work, while minimizing the duration of impacts to area residents and drivers.

Drivers should expect delays in this area, and are asked to slow down, remain alert and watch for construction crews working in Shirlington Circle.

Extended Closures Continue at Shirlington Circle Beginning Sunday, March 29:
Motorists and area residents also are advised that the northern section of the Shirlington Circle will close beginning at approximately 10 p.m. on Sunday night, March 29 until as late as 6 p.m. on Thursday night, April 2. Travelers driving north on the I-395 general purpose lanes will not be able to access Shirlington from Exit 6. Travelers driving north on North Quaker Lane will not be able to access Shirlington or the 395 Express Lanes from the Shirlington Circle, but will be able to access the I-395 general purpose lanes. This additional closure is needed for continued bridge improvement work on the northernmost bridge on Shirlington Circle over I-395. Drivers should stay alert and pay attention to roadway signage.

All work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled or extended if inclement conditions occur.

Work crews are following the most recent guidance from the federal and state government and are prioritizing the health and safety of themselves and the community.

This bridge improvement work is being delivered as part of the 395 Express Lanes project. The eight-mile 395 Express Lanes opened on Nov. 17 and connect the 95 Express Lanes to Washington, D.C. Learn how the lanes work and plan your trip at www.ExpressLanes.com

The 395 Express Lanes are a public-private partnership between the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Transurban. See more details on the project and related lane closures.
