FAIRFAX – The left-hand U-turn lane on northbound Route 28 at the former entrance to the E.C. Lawrence Park athletic fields will close for approximately two weeks beginning in the early morning hours of Monday, April 6. Drivers on Route 28 North trying to access Route 28 South will be directed to the Westfields Boulevard interchange to use the loop ramps to make the U-turn.

The closure is needed for crews to demolish the existing center median and place new pavement in preparation for future traffic pattern changes. 

Drivers should expect additional construction-related detours and traffic changes along Route 28 in the coming weeks as work progresses to reconstruct the I-66/Route 28 Interchange. The Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project is also building new bridges over Route 28 to extend Poplar Tree Road to the west and to connect Braddock and Walney Roads.
