FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at the I-66 interchanges with Route 28 and I-495 so that crews can perform various construction activities for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. 

Details include:
Tuesday, July 7, and Wednesday, July 8
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 West

• The ramp from southbound Route 28 to westbound I-66 will be closed Tuesday night, July 7, and Wednesday night, July 8, from midnight to 4 a.m. for paving operations. Traffic will be directed to continue farther south to Route 29 South, follow signs to I-66 West and make a left at the traffic signal to access I-66 West.  

Tuesday, July 7
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North

• The ramp from eastbound I-66 to northbound Route 28 will permanently close on Tuesday, July 7, at 9 p.m. and be replaced by a new flyover ramp. During the changeover between the two ramps, traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, stay to the right for I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 28 North. At 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, drivers on I-66 East exiting to Route 28 North will begin using the new ramp located prior to Route 28 and the old loop ramp. 

Thursday, July 9, through Saturday, July 11
Ramp from I-66 West to I-495 South General Purpose Lanes and the 495 Express Lanes South

• The ramp from westbound I-66 to the southbound I-495 general purpose lanes and the 495 Express Lanes South will be closed Thursday, July 9, through Saturday, July 11, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly for crews to implement lane shifts. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Nutley Street South, stay to the left and turn left at the signal for I-66 East, then follow signs to I-495 South general purpose lanes or the 495 Express Lanes South.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
