Overnight Lane Closures and Traffic Stoppages on I-66 Near Route 50 Continue this Week for Waples Mill Road Bridge Beam Installation
UPDATE (8/6): This work has been rescheduled to Friday, August 7, and Saturday, August 8.

FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and intermittent traffic stoppages on I-66 near Route 50 in Fairfax are planned to resume tonight, August 4, for bridge beam installation for the new Waples Mill Road Bridge. The bridge is being reconstructed as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area during these times and should consider using alternate routes. 

Details include:

Tuesday, August 4:
I-66 East and West between Route 50 and Jermantown Road

  • I-66 West will be reduced to one travel lane, with two left lanes closed on I-66 East approaching Waples Mill Road from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Drivers on I-66 West should expect periodic stoppages for overhead bridge work.
  • All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Wednesday, August 5:
I-66 East and West between Route 50 and Jermantown Road

  • I-66 West will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Waples Mill Road from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for crane mobilization. One right lane on I-66 East will also be closed during this period.
  • All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Thursday, August 6, through Saturday, August 8:
I-66 East between Monument Drive and Jermantown Road

  • I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Waples Mill Road from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. On Saturday and Sunday mornings, lane closures will continue until 6 a.m.
  • Drivers should expect periodic stoppages for crews to lift bridge beams into place.
  • All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. on Friday, and by 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
