Overnight Closures of the Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East in Fairfax Next Week for Route 50 Bridge Beam Installation

FAIRFAX – The ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East in Fairfax will be closed during overnight hours, Friday, October 23, and Saturday, Oct. 24, for bridge beam installation for the new Route 50 bridges over I-66, as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area and consider using alternate routes.

Details include:

Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24:
Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East

  • The ramp from eastbound Route 50 to eastbound I-66 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly.
  • Drivers on Route 50 East will be directed farther east,  stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at Waples Mill Road, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.

The I-66/Route 50 Interchange is being reconstructed as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. The Route 50 bridges over I-66 are being lengthened and shifted to the east to accommodate new Express Lanes access ramps and the widening of I-66.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
