FAIRFAX – Bridge beam installation for the new Jermantown Road Bridge over I-66 will continue next week with lane closures and stoppages during overnight hours on I-66 as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Work is scheduled to occur in both directions on Monday night, November 9; the remaining nights (Tuesday, November 10, through Friday, November 13) are planned to impact only I-66 West. Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area during these times and should consider using alternate routes.

Details include:

Monday, November 9
I-66 East and West between Route 50 and Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road)

• I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Jermantown Road from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
• I-66 West will be reduced to two travel lanes approaching Jermantown Road from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Drivers should expect periodic brief stoppages of up to 10 minutes on eastbound and westbound I-66 between 10:30 p.m. and 4 a.m.
• All lanes will reopen on I-66 East by 4:30 a.m. and on I-66 West by 5 a.m.

Tuesday, November 10, and Thursday, November 12
I-66 West from Route 123 to Jermantown Road

• Two right lanes will be closed each night between Route 123 and Jermantown Road from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
• All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m.

Wednesday, November 11, and Friday, November 13
I-66 West from Route 123 to Jermantown Road

• I-66 West will be reduced to one travel lane each night approaching Jermantown Road from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
• Drivers should expect periodic brief stoppages of up to 10 minutes on westbound I-66 between 10:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. each night for crews to set bridge beams into place.
• All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. Thursday, November 12, and by 6 a.m. Saturday, November 14.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur. 

Message boards on I-66 East and West are providing advance notice of lane closures and traffic stoppages. 

The Jermantown Road Bridge over I-66 is being reconstructed as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
