FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and periodic traffic stoppages on I-495 South approaching I-66 are scheduled Monday night, January 4, through Wednesday night, January 6, for overhead bridge work. This work is needed to widen the westbound I-66 bridge over I-495 as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area during these times and should consider using alternate routes.

Details include:

Monday, January 4, through Wednesday, January 6
I-495 South from Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) to I-66

  • I-495 South will be reduced to one travel lane approaching I-66 Monday, January 4, through Wednesday, January 6, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes on southbound I-495 between midnight and 4 a.m. nightly.
  • All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Message boards on I-495 South are providing advance notice of lane closures and traffic stoppages.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.

The I-66/I-495 Interchange is being reconstructed as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Construction and lane closure updates are available at Transform66.org and on Twitter @VaDOTNOVA.
