Northbound Lee Highway Ramp to Eastbound I-66 Overnight Closure in Rosslyn Feb. 23
Overhead sign removal related to Lynn Street Esplanade and Custis Trail Improvements project
ROSSLYN – The ramp from northbound Lee Highway (Route 29) to eastbound I-66 in Rosslyn will be closed (weather permitting) from 10 p.m. Sunday night, Feb. 23 to 5 a.m. Monday morning, Feb. 24 for crews to remove an overhead variable message sign (pictured) as part of the Lynn Street Esplanade and Custis Trail Improvements project, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Northbound Lee Highway to eastbound I-66 traffic will be detoured via Fort Myer Drive, 19th Street North and North Lynn Street to the North Lynn Street ramp to eastbound I-66. Northbound Lee Highway between Fort Myer Drive and North Lynn Street will remain open to all other traffic.
The sidewalk along northbound North Lynn Street between northbound Lee Highway and southbound Lee Highway will remain closed until this spring. Pedestrians are being detoured to the opposite sidewalk along southbound North Lynn Street.
A quarter-mile of a wider Custis Trail from North Lynn Street to North Oak Street opened to bicylists and pedestrians in August. Upgraded pedestrian signals and curb ramps have also been installed at the southbound Lee Highway intersections of North Lynn Street, Fort Myer Drive, North Nash Street and North Oak Street.
The project also includes improvements along about 300 feet of North Lynn Street, including:
- Wider sidewalks
- Improved curb ramps
- Upgraded traffic signals
- A new bike lane
- Decorative lighting
- Landscaping
A public art installation by Arlington County called “Corridor of Light” will also be incorporated, with prominent elements at each of the four corners of the North Lynn Street bridge over I-66.
The entire project is scheduled for completion this spring.
