North Lynn Street, Southbound Lee Highway and I-66 Ramp Overnight Closures in Rosslyn March 23-26
Pavement work related to Lynn Street Esplanade and Custis Trail Improvements project
ROSSLYN – North Lynn Street between northbound Lee Highway and southbound Lee Highway, the ramps from northbound Lee Highway and North Lynn Street to eastbound I-66, the ramp from westbound I-66 to southbound Lee Highway and North Lynn Street, and southbound Lee Highway between North Lynn Street and Fort Myer Drive will have overnight lane closures (weather permitting) Monday night, March 23 through Thursday night, March 26 for paving and pavement detailing as part of the Lynn Street Esplanade and Custis Trail Improvements project, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The overnight lane closures will occur Monday night through Thursday night between 10 p.m. each night and 5 a.m. the following morning.
In addition, the following full closures will take place:
- 10 p.m. Monday night to 5 a.m. Tuesday morning and 10 p.m. Tuesday night to 5 a.m. Wednesday morning: Full closure of the ramp from northbound Lee Highway to eastbound I-66. Traffic will be detoured via Fort Myer Drive, 19th Street North and North Lynn Street to the North Lynn Street ramp to eastbound I-66.
- 10 p.m. Wednesday night to 5 a.m. Thursday morning and 10 p.m. Thursday night to 5 a.m. Friday morning: Full closure of southbound Lee Highway between North Lynn Street and Fort Myer Drive. Traffic will be detoured via North Lynn Street and Fort Myer Drive back to southbound Lee Highway.
The sidewalk along northbound North Lynn Street between northbound Lee Highway and southbound Lee Highway will remain closed until mid-spring. Pedestrians are being detoured to the opposite sidewalk along southbound North Lynn Street.
A quarter-mile of a wider Custis Trail from North Lynn Street to North Oak Street opened to bicyclists and pedestrians in August. Upgraded pedestrian signals and curb ramps have also been installed at the southbound Lee Highway intersections of North Lynn Street, Fort Myer Drive, North Nash Street and North Oak Street.
The project also includes improvements along about 300 feet of North Lynn Street, including:
- Wider sidewalks
- Improved curb ramps
- Upgraded traffic signals
- A new bike lane
- Decorative lighting
- Landscaping
A public art installation by Arlington County called “Corridor of Light” will also be incorporated, with prominent elements at each of the four corners of the North Lynn Street bridge over I-66.
The entire project is scheduled for completion in late spring.
