Multiple Overnight Ramp Closures for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project This Weekend and Next Week
Ramps at the I-66 Interchanges with Route 234 Business (Sudley Road), Route 28, Nutley Street, and I-495, as well as ramps at the Route 28/Route 29 Interchange to temporarily close
FAIRFAX – Several ramps within the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project construction corridor will be closed during the overnight hours this weekend and next week for various construction activities.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
Details include:
Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27
Ramps from Route 29 (Lee Highway) North and South to Route 28 North
The ramps from both northbound and southbound Route 29 to Route 28 North in Centreville will be closed Saturday night, September 26, and Sunday night, September 27, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. (5 a.m. on Sunday night/Monday morning) for crews to implement lane shifts on Route 28 North. Traffic will be detoured west of the closure to the Route 29 Centreville/I-66 Interchange, to I-66 East, and then follow signs to Route 28 North.
Sunday, September 27, through Friday, October 2
Ramp from I-66 West to Nutley Street North
The ramp will be closed Sunday night, September 27, through Friday night, October 2, between midnight and 4 a.m. nightly for utility work. Traffic will be detoured farther west, to the exit for the Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Metrorail, stay to the right on to Country Creek Road, continue on to Virginia Center Boulevard, and turn left at the traffic signal on to Nutley Street North.
Monday, September 28, through Friday, October 2
Ramp from Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) North and South to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed Monday, September 28, through Friday, October 2, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly for crews to construct roadway drainage. Traffic will be detoured north of I-66 to Route 29 (Lee Highway) South, travel about four miles, then follow signs to I-66 West. As an alternate route, drivers on Route 234 Business can go west on Balls Ford Road, turn right on to Route 234 (Prince William Parkway North), then follow signs to I-66 West.
Monday, September 28
Ramp from 495 Express Lanes North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed Monday night, September 28, between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. for overhead bridge work at Gallows Road. Traffic will be detoured to I-66 East, to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.
Message boards on I-66 are providing advance notice of lane closures and traffic stoppages.
