LEESBURG – Drivers on Evergreen Mills Road (Route 621) now have an easier time accessing The Woods Road (Route 771) with the opening of new turn lanes, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The project, aimed at improving safety and operations at the intersection of Evergreen Mills Road and The Woods Road, added a new left turn lane on northbound Evergreen Mills and a new right turn lane on southbound Evergreen Mills.

Final detail work will occur into the summer with minimal impacts to traffic.

The $2.5 million turn lane improvements are the final component of overall improvements to The Woods Road. In 2016, improvements were made to reconstruct and pave the gravel portion of The Woods Road, realign the road from just east of Understory Way to Evergreen Mills Road, and relocate the intersection at Evergreen Mills Road about 1,000 feet north to its current location. The Woods Road has two ten-foot-wide travel lanes and five-foot-wide paved shoulders for cyclists. The overall improvements have been financed with federal, state and Loudoun County funds. 

The intersection averages just over 9,000 vehicles a day.
