Wet Roads May Be Icy with Plunging Temps
Crews treating for freeze of weekend's rain and melted snow; Drivers asked to check road conditions before traveling
FAIRFAX—With temperatures falling swiftly overnight, crews will continue working to treat roads for icy conditions. Temperatures well below freezing will cause any water from weekend rains or recently melted snow to refreeze.
VDOT asks drivers to be aware of potential icy spots overnight and into Monday morning, to check road conditions before leaving and to delay travel if conditions become hazardous.
- Check road conditions along your route before leaving, and plan to delay travel if road conditions become hazardous. Download the free 511 app for Apple and Android, visit www.511virginia.org, or call 511 from any phone in Virginia.
- Black ice is a thin, nearly invisible layer of ice that forms on the road surface. If your sidewalk or driveway is slick, it is a good indicator that the roads may be as well, and driving is not advised.
