SIMONS RUN EXTENSION ACCEPTED INTO STATE SYSTEM
Road connects Airport and Leesville Roads

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Motorists who have eagerly anticipated the opening of the Simons Run (Route 1008) extension project in Campbell County are likely pleased with the acceptance of the road into the state highway system. The connector road, constructed between Compton’s Way and Airport Road as a more direct route to the Wards Crossing West shopping center, officially opened to traffic on Wednesday, July 7.

The project, designed by Hurt & Proffitt Engineering, was advertised for construction in 2019 and the $2.3 million construction contract was awarded to Counts & Dobyns. It also included various improvements to Compton’s Way from Simons Run to Leesville Road.

The approximately $3.6 million project was completed on budget.
