ROUTE 501 NORTHBOUND TRAFFIC TO BE DETOURED IN HALIFAX COUNTY
Weather permitting northbound Route 501 traffic will be detoured starting Nov. 1

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Beginning Monday, Nov.1, weather permitting, about a mile of northbound Route 501 (L P Bailey Highway) in Halifax County will closed to traffic and a detour will be put into place.

Northbound Route 501 will be closed between its intersections with Route 610 (Woodbourne Road) and Route 643 (Cedar Fork Road).

Drivers will need to detour around the closure using the Woodbourne Road and Cedar Fork Road.  During the detour, a one-way traffic pattern will be in place on Woodbourne Road and Cedar Fork Road.

Message boards and signs will be posted to alert drivers to the upcoming closure and the detour route.  The detour is expected to remain in place until mid-December.

Closing this section of northbound Route 501 is needed as part of a safety and operational improvement project to construct new passing lanes, widen shoulders and install rumble strips.
